FYI: The Coalfield Clash is a three day holiday basketball tournament held annually at Twin Valley High School in Pilgrims Knob, Va. The tournaments purpose is to allow area basketball teams an opportunity to compete against top notch quality opponents while remaining in the immediate area. In the past two years the Ramey's Tournament has thrived to bring quality competition into Southwest Virginia, exposing visiting teams to the culture and festive views of the Heart of Appalachia. In the process our local teams receive an opportunity to experience an agressive tournament style atmosphere, better preparing them for district, regional and state tournament play.
In only a few short years the Coalfield Clash hopes to continue it's tradition of quickly becoming the biggest and most successfully organized tournament in Southwest Virginia. In the past teams from West Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia have competed in the tournament. With increased exposure the future format will include 12 teams, six of which will be local while the remaining entrants will be by invitation only. This format assures the fans a of week of exciting entertainment while providing increased exposure for local athletes.
